Biocube Steve's LEDs Splash Guard Mod

This mod is to address and fix an issue with the Steve’s LEDs iridescence booster diodes melting the Biocube splash guard.  The mod is easy and cheap and can be done rather quickly with a few simple tools.  Always wear appropriate safety equipment to protect yourself.

Step 1:  Tape off an area approximately 1″ away from the diode boards.

Step 2:  Use a cutting tool to cut along the tape line.  My cutout was 3.5″ x 13″.

Step 3:  Clean off any melted plastic along the cut.

Step 4:  Cut a piece of glass approximately 1″ larger than the cutout.  Mine was 5.5″ x 16″.  I was able to find a sheet at The Home Depot that was 12″ x 16″ x 3/32″.

*** If you purchase glass thicker than 3/32″ then you will have to attach the glass to the OUTSIDE of the splash guard, otherwise the glass will touch the end connectors.

Step 5:  Run a generous bead of silicone where the glass will be placed.

Step 6:  Place the glass on top of the silicone and gently apply pressure.  Be careful of the sharp edges.

Step 7:  Run a generous bead of silicone along the edges of the glass and smooth it out.

Step 8:  Let sit for a few hours before installing the splash guard.  Ideally you want the vinegar smell to be gone.
